Vialit – Adhesion Test

The Vialit test is used to evaluate the adhesion between bitumen and aggregate material in road surfaces — a critical property for ensuring the durability and wear resistance of the pavement. The method is based on an impact test where a steel ball is dropped onto a test plate coated with bitumen and aggregate, after which loose particles are counted and assessed.

The equipment consists of a metal base with three vertical support points and a 500 mm high metal rod with ball holder, a steel ball weighing 512 g, six metallic test plates and a hand-operated rubber-coated roller filled with lead shot.
