The penetration depth of the needle is determined by an electronic measuring system, which is separated from the piston during the test. This and the free control of the piston, the influence of load and friction is practically eliminated. Before each start of the test, the equipment makes a reference automatically, and then moves the penetration needle up to the sample with an electric drive, which is moved with a fine-tuned joystick (an ultra-bright LED lamp is included). The piston is then approved by an automatic device and blocked again after the test period. The test result is shown on the digital display. The piston can be easily removed to calibrate its weight.
