When grouting fine cracks and porous material, the penetration ability of a cement mortar is limited by the cement particles forming filter cake at constrictions in the flow path. This prevents the mortar from penetrating further.

The test method can be used both in the laboratory and in the field. In addition to determining suitable mortar recipes, it can be used, for example, to evaluate the mixer’s efficiency and to compare different mixing equipment.

The method can also be used to determine the open time of a mortar.

Screen cloths with mesh sizes from 45 my up to 200 my according to ASTM E 437.

Graduated beaker with internal diameter 105 ± 5 mm and height at least 140 mm.

Thermometer with an accuracy of ± 0.5 °C.
