This apparatus is designed to measure the minimum comparative effort required to produce almost complete compaction of soil, and the rate at which a sample of chalk lumps is crushed. The system enables classification of chalk as fill material with saturated moisture content.

The apparatus consists of a robust frame with a falling tamper, mould, scale, counter and accessories. It is suitable for determining the crushability of chalk lumps according to international standards for soil-bound materials.
