When interpreting measured corrosion values, it is important to consider the concrete cover, as concrete acts as insulation. With a concrete cover of only 20 mm, the meter may display strongly negative values, e.g. -500 mV, indicating very severe corrosion. With a cover of 60 mm, the same actual corrosion may only show as -150 mV — which could incorrectly be interpreted as almost no corrosion at all. Concrete cover should therefore always be measured in parallel during corrosion inspections.
