Standard: EN 933-9
The methylene blue test set is used to determine the content of clay and other harmful fine particles in aggregate materials and soil. The method is based on adding methylene blue dye solution to the sample in increments, and after each addition, a drop is placed on filter paper to check whether the dye is being absorbed by the clay particles — the so-called spot test. As long as the clay absorbs the dye, the edge of the drop leaves a blue ring, and the test continues until the clay is saturated and a light blue halo forms around the edge of the drop, indicating that the methylene blue value (MB) has been reached. The result is used as a measure of the quality of the fine fraction (0/2 mm) and is an important criterion in the classification of aggregate materials.
